"When you look at a painting, you are looking at what is happening inside it. I wanted the experience to be more alive by placing the sculpture in front of the painting, my work begins to feel like a live stage".

-Shintaro Ohata

Shintaro Ohata is an influence to me because his art conveys emotion, it is very unique and a story always develops in my head when I see his art. It is unlike many other artists since he typically creates monochromatic paintings with matching sculptures to go along with them. It definitely makes his art stand out and the emotions are extremely well captured in his pieces which is something I hope to capture in my art as well.

His sculptures are similar to an anime style which is mostly what I drew and painted as a kid. I also got interested in anime figures, but I did not want to purchase the ones already made. I sculpted my own figures using Fimo and Premo Clay based on images online as well as my own designs because it was a lot more fun to create them.

After discovering an artist that combines three of the things I love; painting, anime and sculpture, I now plan to create my own pieces that encompass his style and giving it my own twist.

In this photograph, I recreated one of Ohata's pieces and made my own changes to it by painting a poster that is significantly smaller than my sister and making a larger balloon. The reason why I adjusted the sizes for my photo was not only to make it my own, but to focus more on the action in the foreground.
